On our Hidden Side of Hanoi by Scooter tour, we'll welcome you with pick up from your hotel or guest house in the old town of Hanoi. And because we want you to have the most enjoyable experience, when we're done we'll drop you back at your accommodation. We'll get acquainted while sampling the local café culture at an eclectic-style café in the heart of the Old Quarter, before heading off on our scooters to our next stop.
What better way to get to know the city's history than with a visit to our next stop, St Joseph's Cathedral? Admire the famed French colonial-style church as we learn about its history and importance in Hanoi. Our next unusual stop is to the famed railroad tracks where locals live and carry out their day along train tracks. Here we can see how the locals live and work in tall narrow houses, just centimetres from the tracks. You'll have some time to take pictures and admire this quirky location. Then, we'll set off for a ride through the city’s iconic narrow streets and head into the heart of the historic Old Quarter.
We'll then take a look at the newest attraction in Hanoi, an outdoor gallery where local artists have created amazing pieces of outdoor art. This is both an artistically and culturally significant place as the initiative started to mark the 25 year anniversary of peace between the South Korean government and Vietnam. We then ride out of the city to the Long Bien Bridge, a magnificent structure built over a hundred years ago. This amazing piece of architecture spans the Red River and connects the Hoan Kiem and Long Bien districts, and provides shelter to locals living on boats underneath. Only motorbikes & bicycles can traverse, so off we go!
After our great ride on the outskirts of Hanoi, along the banks of the red river, we'll then make our way to our local lunch spot. Try a variety of traditional Vietnamese food all shared, family-style. It’s back on the scooters for the ride to the Ngoc Ha Market. Take in the scale and excitement of this market, and admire the vibrant atmosphere typical to Ha Noi. After a short ride, we head towards Huu Tiep Lake to see the B52 crash site at the lake. This US bomber was shot down during the 1972 bombing raids of Ha Noi, a poignant reminder of recent history. Take in the story of this site and see the remains emerging from the lake. Our last and final stop is to visit a local traditional tea shop where we are able to learn about, and sample, local traditional teas served from a tea master.
