Nishijin of Kyoto is where the traditional textile industry, including Nishijin-Ori, flourished since the Edo Period. Why not learn the delicate handiwork directly from the Japanese craftsmen who continue supporting the technique and tradition in the town? The workshop is carried out in a quiet space in a traditional Machiya style house where you can appreciate the Japanese atmosphere.
You will try 'Tsumami-zaiku' which is usually made by craftsmen by hand. You can make a beautiful accessory such as hair ornament while arranging materials as you like. Tsumami-zaiku refers to the technique from the Edo Period of assembling small pieces of cloth by hand to make flower decorations and the like. It is often used to create a hair accessory called 'Kanzashi' worn by women who wear kimono. 'Maiko' is a perfect example. What you will make is a clip type accessory by assembling your favorite materials from five categories such as color and pattern of a flower, the body shape, the center of the flower, color and shape of the streamer. Anyone of broad age group can enjoy the accessory as they can wear it or display it. You can choose the color and shape of the parts you like. Considering the image of the person who will wear it, please create a one-of-a-kind accessory. The concept of the shop is to seek about "how to make the wearer look more beautiful." They think out ways to make the face of the wearers look more attractive. The colors of the materials are chosen to match skin color and makeup of the ladies of today. There are a wide variety of silk clothes manufactured in Tango region of Kyoto and carefully dyed by hand. Using the same Habutae silk worn by Maiko, enjoy the genuine Japanese handicraft. Even if you are a novice, please do not worry. You will have guidance of an experienced instructor. Take back the item you made, and cherish the genuine Japanese accessory you cannot find anywhere else. It will help you look more beautiful in the scenes in your daily life or on special occasions.
