Kozushima is a quaint island offering bountiful nature from turquoise waters and white beaches to the mountains. Just a 45-minute flight from Tokyo (four hours by high-speed jet ferry, or 12 hours by a large passenger ship), this verdant island south of central Tokyo, offers a cornucopia of outdoor actives. In this activity, you wil learn how to make a sea candle using items found on the beach.
Create an original souvenir to remember your experience on this quaint island. First, collect sand, shells, and other materials on the beach for up to 40 minutes. Alternatively, during the busy season (typically July – September) or on rainy days, select items from presorted materials for up to 10 minutes.
Next, arrange materials inside a glass. When finished, pour gel wax over the elements, and then let the wax harden overnight. You'll be able to pick up your finished candle at Kozushima Sight Seeing Information Center anytime the next day.
Open daily: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM
Activity duration: 1 hour
