What could be better than a beautiful Baroque palace, brimming with history and drama? Well, how about a beautiful Baroque palace full of delicious wine? Head underground to the palace's wine cellars, and begin a brilliantly boozy journey of winemaking in Burgenland – bottoms up!
Deep within the 500-year-old Esterházy palace vaults lies a veritable treasure trove of all things vino. Marvel at over 700 fascinating artifacts and trace the history of Esterházy's viticulture (winemaking).
It's said that employees of the Esterházy family, including Joseph Haydn, were partly paid in wine. And during your visit you'll be wondering how much of your salary you can feasibly convert into 'grown-up grape juice'.
While you're here, you can admire one of the largest and oldest wine barrels in existence (now empty, sadly) and check out the gigantic 'Baumpresse' – it's officially the oldest wine press in Europe!
